Here are some interesting links:

Michiguide has info on all MW/FM stations in Michigan, plus SW Ontario and NW Ohio.

cityfreq has scanner frequencies listed by state and city. Be a tad careful. Double check the spellings of city names. Things change so double check freqs on the FCC wireless telecommunication database.

That database can be checked at
FCC Wireless Database.

Via DX Mix 465, 24 April

Democratic Voice of Burma, A-07

1430-1527 15480 Yerevan
17625 MDG

This is listed as in Burmese only. Years ago, I procured a language sked, which i believe was via Cumbre. The languages were given 15m slots on the following days:

Sun-Mon (related to Khmer)
Mon-Arakan
Tue-Chin
Wed-Shan (related to Thai)
Thu-Karen
Fri-Kayan
Sat-Kachin

I'll have to remember to monitor this because I don't know if this is still accurate.

Radio Disney (WFDF) is producing an annoying harmonic on 1820 (910x2).

The other local frequency of interest is something I nearly forgot about-the local pentecostal church, about two blocks away, has a wireless mike on 169.505. The sermons are good but the worst singers are attracted to the mike more than the better ones. Makes for good entertainment, albeit weird, Sundays and Thursdays.

AUSTRALIA: The land of dreams. RA 15240 at 0300 w/nx. This is how I found out that Paul Wolfowitz resigned. I just simply don't watch much TV, maybe an hour or two per week, if that. Fair signal. //15515 exc at S5+. BELGIUM: I keep hearing something on 9970, presumably RTB. In French w/pop music. HFCC lists this as the only stn on 9970. At 0336 good signal, but barely audible by 0400.

17 May 2007

ST. HELENA??? Squat. Absolutely nothing. Apparently heard well in Europe.

CANADA: CBC NQ is still off freq on 9625.97

IRAN: VOIRI (0130-0230 7235 and 9495 to NA) has annoyingly detailed Cold War type propaganda. Nightly detailed "analysis" of US politics. The song they play at the end of each broadcast is a very pretty jazz tune.

16 May 2007

Greek Orthodox Liturgy
(well worth staying up late at least once for those in North America.)

Sunday, 0500-0715 on 9425, 11645, 15630

Recommendations:
For North Americans, 9420 comes in loud and clear late afternoons into the evening. Fantastic Greek music. Some of the modern stuff can be sappy, but most conjures up images of Greek dancing.

Hellenes Around the World is on Saturday, 1305-1400 on 9420, 9935 and 15630.

The Macedonia Radio Station comes in well at the same times on 7450 during the winter. Like its parent station, it's full of arguing and good music.

WWCR:

Sunday UTC/EST/CST:

There is much to monitor on WWCR but I'm not always around to hear some of the more interesting denominations.

12 May 2007

Some WWCR Programming Observations:

The WWCR program guide is accurate but they do one stupid thing. They list UTC but really rely on CST (UTC-5 summer, -6 winter). In other words the day change is based solely on CST. Frustrating.

Here's what I heard:

Saturday UTC/Friday EST and CST
0000-0100 3215 Tabernacle Hour (Baptist)

Saturday UTC/EST/CST:
1330-1400 9985 Disciples of Christ (not the denom. but pentecostal)
1400-1500 15825 Cowboy Church of Hot Springs
1830-1900 15825 Merry Street Church of God Seventh Day

I completely updated my religious info on my website.

Talking house still going strong.

Feeling a bit better. In the meantime play with azimuthal maps. After 22 years of DXing, I finally was forced to pay attention to the direction of transmissions. Surprising but true.

Apparently Radio Thailand does not use their beautiful and eerie chime IS anymore, or at least I haven't heard it often.

Radio Taiwan in non-Mandarin Languages:

Hokkien is another name for Amoy. The transmissions to NA are heard well, being via WYFR, and it's an interesting way to distinguish the languages.

Hakka is not Hokkien. This language originated in Northern China before Mandaring spread. Now speakers of Hakka live just north of the Cantonese.

SW Radio Africa is probably coming from Moscow and not Rampisham, according to various European DXers. At my QTH, neither transmitter would make much of a difference.

Several Russian transmissions to note. I heard VOR on 15425 at 0231 in Russian via PK, 250kw 65 deg. VOR also on 13635 via PK, 25kw 65 deg but not//. 15425 IDed as VOR, so perhaps the other was Rossii but it was very faint.

5 May 2007

Still not well.

4 May 2007

3 May 2007

I heard SW R africa via Rampisham on 12035 at 1847+. Poor to fair at best. No other freqs audible. Still worth a try.

BELGIUM: A hard catch in the states is RTB 9970 after 0300+. I can hear French but it is so faint I can never ID. Nothing but talk.

Latest sked for SW Radio Africa:
1700-1900
4880 MEY
11775 MSK
11810 ARM
12035 RMP

Naturally, I cannot hear this although I should be able to, except 4880.

R Oman in English, A-07
0300-0400 15335
1400-1500 15140

I have heard the latter within the past year or two.

30 April 2007

What? No DX? Had 730 WJYM from Bowling Green on as background noise and read while a pleasant summer breeze came in through the windows.
