1270: WXYT at 0010+ w/Tigers game. Verlander not having a good night.

HUNGARY: R Budapest 6195 from 0230-0258 w/the last English
broadcast to NA. Mention of this came at 0257. Annc mentioned
that there would be Hungarian instead and that this was all part
of a change to reduce cost. A very disappointing, nonchalant
ending. I sent a QSL letter, although fellow DXers say it's rare to QSL.

SOUTH AFRICA: R Sondergroense 3320 at 0415 in Afrikaans.
Couldn't hear this with the longwire. Heard on my DX-440 with
inverted-v.

GERMANY: IBC Tamil 7115 at 0009 in Tamil, via Wertachtal. Nightly.

RUSSIA: VOR 15425 at 0145 in Russian w/classical music. Moderate but clear. Heard nightly. Via Petro-K, 25okw, 65 deg.

I was messing around with my old DX-440. I also went back to my inverted-v antenna, which reduces most noise, including QRN from a computer screen.

The DX-440 does not get x-band stations even with an external antenna. It's also useless for longwave, usually overloading. But it's great for MW and FM-only my Ford Taurus radio is better. I can't hear my beloved talking house on the portable.


My NRD-525 is slightly better for daytime MW DX, although a loop antenna would help both, should I ever get around to building one.

ISRAEL: KOL 11590 at 0335 on 27 June w/nx. Very clear and strong
signal. Annc mentioned that channels 1-33 are going digital,
more details on http://www.iba.org.il. The site is mostly in
Hebrew. French at 0345.

89.5: WBCY, Archbold/Wausseon, OH at 2330+ w/contemporary
Christian mx. Alternating with WCMU. WOVI not heard.

600: WSNL at 0253 w/Prophecy Club. Exc signal. Don't recall hearing this at night before but perhaps I wasn't paying attention.

Radio New Zealand now has English audible during North American Evenings on 15720, formerly 13730. Very clear signal.

NEW ZEALAND: RNZI 15720 at 0146 w/prg on Solomon Islands. Listed as 13730 at this time but haven't heard it there for a few days. Moderate but clear.

RUSSIA: Golos Rossii 7125 at 0200 w/talk in Russian, then techno after 5m. //7250, which I don't recall hearing before. 7125 booming in as usual, 7250 moderate.

CUBA[non]/ENGLAND: R Republica 6135 at 2330 in Spanish. Good signal, no jamming on 23 June. On 24 June, heard on 6155 at 0120, jammed. At 0217 on 6100, not jammed. All via Rampisham, 500kw 285 deg.

This includes yesterday's observation on R Republica.

ALGERIA: RASD 6300 at 2350 in Arabic w/mx. Faint as usual.

SOUTH AFRICA: TWR 9620 at 1820-1825 s/off in Pulaar/French. Very faint. (p).

USA: WWCR 15825 at 2000 w/Real Radio with Jack Hibbs. World of Radio at 2030. I tuned to USB because of noise and discovered that the freq was actually 15825.01, unusual for this station.

Real Radio is sponsored by Calvary Church of Chino Hills, a pentecostal group. Their parent denomination is Calvary Chapel. Their only SW sked is Friday 2000 on WWCR on 15825. Many people find them controversial. Rick Ross posts several newspaper articles on his website about them.

27185 (Ch. 19) is a big CB frequency for the I-75 truckstop in Woodhaven, MI. Naturally, it can't be heard in most of Metro Detroit but there's steady traffic if you're into CB.

NEW ZEALAND: RNZI 13730 at 0145. Fair.

BULGARIA: Radio Varna 9900 from 0035-0157+ in Bulgarian w/pop mx. Began weak, than only fair by tune out. Lots of Elton John. 1st time heard.

CANADA: Bible Voice 9815 at 0040 in Bengali. Good signal. English ID and Canadian address at 0045 s/off. 1st time BV heard.

GERMANY/SRI LANKA: IBC Tamil at 0045-0052 w/"A Week in Politics". News about Sri Lanka, pro-Tamil, etc. Tamil after 0052. Fair.

HUNGARY: R Budapest 6040 at 0100 w/Spotlight, all about Hungarian scientists. No annc about impending closure but didn't expect one. Lousy reception, best in LSB. Good signal at 0230 on 6195 w/prg rpt.

The Tabernacle Hour, 9985 at 1350, sponsored by the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Greenville, TN. This is an independent Baptist church.

The Smoky Mountain Cowboy Church came on at 1400 on 15825. They say yee-ha instead of amen.

Shelton Rapha preaches the Jesus only doctrine on 7465 at 2245 from The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

WTCR, Twentieth Century Radio, 6925 at 0108+ w/70s and 80s music. 80s music sounds great anywhere but it's particularly good on SW. Began with strong signal, then faded to fair just before 0200.

This is a great list of VOLMET stations. In quiet conditions I have heard nearly all of the Volmets in the Pacific and Southeastern and Eastern Asia. Others outside of North America are difficult.

Lovely chants from the Voice of Greece, heard Sunday, 3 June 2007 on 9420 from 0500-0545. All chants, so I was presumably hearing matins, or morning prayer. I have heard the Divine Liturgy but later, which is difficult in North America. Worth staying up for if you can't visit an actual Orthodox church.

89.3: CKGW Chatham at 1900+ w/test b'cast. Alternating preaching and contemporary Christian mx tidbits. Gave phone # as 1-888-351-1118. Alternating with WHFR from Dearborn. Inaudible at home because too close to 89.1. Heard in Southfield very well.
