Calcite Pictures

This is the pilothouse of the SS Calcite at 40 Mile Point, north of Alpena, MI.

This is the ship's radiophone. The papers behind it belong to the ship's log. It was owned by Bradley Transportation, which also owned the Carl D. Bradley. That ship sunk in Lake Michigan in the 1950s.

For the sake of continuity, I am re-posting the pictures of the beacon maps.

Vacation Notes

I spent a week in the lovely Upper Peninsula, on South Manistique Lake. It's a bit closer to Lake Michigan than Lake Superior, so I didn't hear anything interesting from the Superior shoreline in Ontario.

WNBY plays lite rock on 93.9 and country on 1450.

The tape loop at 40 Mile Point Light, north of Alpena, is now functioning. The frequency is 107.3. Volunteers and the Coast Guard have done a wonderful job of renovating the property. The loop can only be heard on the property.

My website is updated.

The mysterious marine relay of WIDG is gone on 161.730, as is the mystery tape loop on 89.9 in Mackinaw.
